Since my move to my new gym under a new instructor, I came to a pretty big kick in the ass realization.  I used to be so into the new moves; who’s doing what and how!  I would buy the latest and great instructionals, etc.!  With all of that going on I began to veer away from the number one cardinal rule in any sport;  I lost touch with my basics!  I kept concentrating on the newest moves but my game wen nowhere.  So under a new tuetlage, I began to change my frame of mind when it came to technique.  I became more concerned with basics and ensuring that my basic game was tight!  I still like to know what the latest and greatest is, however my priorities are different.

On a side note, advanced techniques are very important to know.  You need to know them for so many reasons.  Most importantly you are exposed to them so you can defend them!  If you’ve never seen something done, how will you know how to defend it?

This is just my 2 cents on the topic.  Let me know what you guys think!  Let’s get a conversation/dialog going!
